While PRO continues to innovate and update saddles to suit riders' ever-changing styles and needs, this year, the brand introduced a new naming convention that helps identify key features of each saddle through letter and number designations.
Now, you can easily pick out the perfect saddle for you based on five key features you'll find in the saddle name itself, including Category, Length, Riding Position, Saddle Base, and Rails and Padding Materials.
PRO's saddle naming convention – and your search for the perfect saddle – starts with the type of riding or the type of bike you are looking to put this saddle on. Choose between road, mountain bike, gravel, or triathlon/TT categories, and this will help ensure you have the best shape and overall saddle design for the kind of riding you plan to do.
While longer saddles have traditionally been the go-to choice for riders worldwide, shorter designs have recently taken center stage, including PRO's much-loved Stealth lineup. Understanding that every rider is different, PRO offers two ranges of saddle lengths; those that measure more than 260mm front to back are designated Long, while anything under 260mm is Short.
One of the most important questions you can ask yourself while searching for the perfect saddle is how you sit on the bike while riding. Are you bent over in an aggressive position with your chin close to the handlebars? Or do you sit more upright with your chest up and upper body relaxed? PRO breaks down riding position into four options: Aggressive, Forward, Neutral, and Upright. You might jump around between the different positions, but think about where you spend most of your time, and that will be the place to start when looking for your next saddle.
Next comes the decision of what material the saddle base is made of. This material not only affects the price and look of the saddle, but it can also slightly change how it feels as you pedal. PRO saddles are offered in four different base materials. Superlight saddles feature a full carbon base for the lightest, stiffest feeling possible. Level 1 saddles have a carbon reinforced base, while Level 2 saddles have a glass fiber reinforced base. Both of these offer a solid mix of lightweight design and durable construction without breaking the bank. Finally, a Level 3 saddle with a full Nylon Base creates a comfortable ride at an impressive price point.
The final piece of the saddle puzzle - and the final designation for PRO's new naming convention - is saddle rail and padding options. This is where you can really dial in your personal preferences on saddle feel and comfort. Level 1 saddles have Carbon Rails and EVA padding for the no-compromise design for discerning riders and racers. Level 2 saddles have stainless rails and EVA padding for similar performance and comfort at a lower cost. Level 3 saddles use the same stainless rails as the previous option but utilize a more cost-conscious PU padding material. Finally, the Level 4 saddle has Chromo Rails and PU padding for the ultimate budget-friendly and comfortable option.
Put each of these features together, and you'll discover the PRO naming convention that helps you pick the perfect saddle based on your riding style and needs. It may feel a bit confusing to start, but once you sort through the type of riding you plan to do, and what materials and shapes work best for you and your budget, it becomes a snap. Whether you're a professional cyclist or an avid enthusiast, PRO Bike Gear has the perfect saddle to enhance your riding experience.
